Trash-Free Penang
Introduction
Trash-Free Penang is a GREEN-themed programme under the Community-building Initiatives in conjunction with the Penang2030 ‘Phase 2: Accelerating Penang2030’. “The Community-building Initiatives” bring agencies and elected representatives together to actively promote and coordinate volunteerism in the state and to engage with the population as a whole.
This program aims to promote public awareness, and to help increase a sense of community ownership whereby locals will be encouraged to be more proactive in addressing the problems faced in their area. In addition, it also serves to support the Penang2030 vision as a family-focused green and smart state that inspires the nation.
Under this program, recycling stations were built up as a hub for local communities to drop off their recyclables and as a platform for people to meet, enjoy and share experiences, ideas, knowledge with regards to greener environment.
Objectives
a) To encourage waste segregation at the source among younger generations and make it a daily life habit
b) To raise awareness of their responsibility to properly recycle their waste;
c) To assist community/ schools in facilitating more stable and quality recycling and creating a conducive environment for community/ student activities
Target Group
Primary and Secondary schools in Penang which categorised as Sekolah Kekurangan Murid (SKM) (SJKT, SJKC, Sekolah Agama, SM Khas)
