Speech for Penang Green Idol Tournament Winner Announcement

Speech by Ms Josephine Tan, General Manager of Penang Green Council during the Facebook Live for Penang Green Idol Tournament Winner Announcement on 27th November 2021.

Salam Sejahtera & a very good afternoon to our online viewers, welcome to the winner announcement of Penang Green Idol Tournament 2021 on this lovely weekend.

The day that we have been anticipating is finally here! Today is the day that we will know which team will be crowned as champion and who will be your Most Popular Green Idol 2021. Not only that, we have a little surprise for our live viewers today, so make sure to stay with us till the end.

Penang Green Idol (PGI) is an annual competition that prompts students to share their views on dire environmental issues. Since 2015 to 2019, we aim to effectively coach our future generation on preserving the Mother Earth by sowing the seeds of environmentalism in their young minds.

After 6 years of organising PGI, this year we have tweak a little bit of the competition usual mechanism, we have invited all champions and idols from previous years to compete with each other in PGI Tournament 2021 on a virtual platform. I am proud to announce that this is the first virtual PGI ever organised and one of the biggest interactive online programs by PGC. All competitions are conducted online including the opening session and winner announcement today. I would like to applaud my team for the outstanding job for the past six months in making this tournament a success.

We often say that Children are the future, so as for me, Youth is the present! I will like to encourage our Youth to  “Take the Lead” and this is also the theme of PGIT this year. PGI is also intends toprovide a platform for youths to express their thoughts and ideas as well as discovering their talents and leadership skill especially in environmental aspect. We hope this tournament is able to encourage these young leaders to continue to be the role models that will inspire the future generation as well as the key to a more sustainable Penang State.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Our participants have gone through three rounds of competition which are quiz, debate and storytelling, they have overcome all the challenges, hurdles and make all their way until today.

Today’s session is not only to reward the winners but also YOU, our viewers who are watching live from Facebook. We will have a lucky draw session before this live ends and all of you are invited to join! All you need to do is to share this live session and tag 3 of your friends in the comment section to stand a chance of winning some great prizes like eco products and healthy snacks worth more than RM700.

With this opportunity, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our main sponsor – Menara Kerjaya Fasteners Sdn Bhd, Fides Certification (M) Sdn Bhd, broadcasting partner – Atlantic by Motion In Style and lucky draw gift sponsors – Signature Market, Owl Zero Waste Grocer Penang and Nak.Ed Farm. On top of that, I would also like to congratulate my team in PGC on the outstanding job for the past six months because without this strong team behind it, this tournament wouldn’t be a success today.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Environmental education is an on-going and should not be stopped no matter what happens. PGC strive to adapt each year and we are working harder to reach out to the public, so please continue to support us in this global action in addressing environmental issues. Please join us in keeping our state, our country, our environment green, clean and safe. Be responsive to dare to change is the key word!  Last but not least, well done to all green idols for your commitment and performance.

I will end my speech today with a quote that I love, it is from Sir Charles Darwin : It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.

Thank you & I wish everyone have a great weekend ahead.
