Penang Green Incentives and Penang Green Journalism Award Are Now Open For Registration!
Good news to all green practitioners and media friends! Penang Green Incentives and Penang Green Journalism Award are back this year! Institutions, organisations, communities, writers, photographers and potential candidates are welcome to apply for these incentives now!
1. Penang Green Incentives
As a part of the Penang State Government’s initiatives to encourage individuals or organisations to reduce negative impact on the environment from daily activities or operations, Penang Green Council has been actively introducing green schemes that will help to educate and support the public who care about the importance of environmental protection. This year, we have two different incentives available for application.
1a. Penang Food Waste Challenge Incentive (FWCI)
Food waste management is very important as Penang records an average of 1700-1800 tonnes of waste per day with at least 40% of organic wastes being dumped in the landfill. Penang Food Waste Challenge Incentive initiated by the state government is now open to hotels, factories, hypermarkets and institutions and community based projects in the State with an installed or established “Food Waste Management System” to encourage our community to take this matter seriously. A total of RM2000 incentive will be given to ONE successful applicant.
1b. Penang Rainwater Harvesting Incentive (RWHI)
Water is essential in our daily life but water scarcity has always been an alarming issue in the world every day. Penang Rainwater Harvesting Incentive was introduced back in 2015 to encourage harvesting of rainwater at residential and commercial building owners for non-potable use. This is also to encourage people in practising water conservation by reusing rainwater as an alternative water source. This incentive is open to all building type owners or their appointed Joint Management Body (JMB) in the State (including Penang Green School Participants). This year, a total of RM1000 incentive will be given to ONE successful applicant.
All the mentioned incentives are now open for online registration until 31st July 2021 at PGC’s website: https://www.pgc.com.my/2020/. The selection and audit process will be conducted in August. For more information, please contact Mr. Ahmad Uzeir or Ms. Ashawani at 04-2503322.
2. Penang Green Journalism Award

The focus of this award is directed towards 2 sections: (A) Features Writing – open for Bahasa Melayu, English, Chinese and Tamil, and (B) Photojournalism.
