As a part of Penang Green Council’s educational program, Penang Green Citizens Program is designed for individuals and communities to commit for a Cleaner, Greener, Safer, and Healthier & Happier city by pledging to practice at least one out of 10 key initiatives. These includes:
- Save water.
- Conserve energy.
- Reduce single use plastics.
- Bring your own food container/ water bottle
- Practise 5R- Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle to extend the lifespan of Pulau Burung Landfill.
- Use public transport or carpool to reduce carbon footprint.

Since 2020, PGC has been working with corporates and companies that encourages green lifestyle especially in waste reduction. To further enhance the importance of circular economy and raise environmental awareness, PGC has kick started a few more collaboration with Lush Malaysia and The Habitat Penang Hill.
Lush is a UK origin beauty products company that produces products which are 100% vegetarian, 85% vegan, against animal testing and completely handmade. Also, Lush leads the cosmetics industry in combating over-packaging by running public awareness campaigns and developing products that can be sold ‘naked’ to the consumer without any packaging. Together with Lush, PGC aims to reward green citizens who recycle 5 Lush black pots to redeem a free fresh face mask from Lush. First 20 green citizens who recycle at Lush first store in Penang located at Gurney Paragon will be invited to join an exclusive DIY workshop this year!
Meanwhile, The Habitat, Penang Hill is giving an extra rebate to all green citizens from April to December 2021! Penang Green Citizens can now purchase the standard entrance ticket (Original price: RM55 for one adult) with 20% off by showing their green citizen card at the ticket counter. The Habitat is rich with its biodiversity, and it also plays an important role as the primary water catchment area for Penang Island. There is so much more to discover about our nature. So, let’s not forget to spare some time with Mother Nature because nature has the power to heal and calm us down when we are living a hectic city life.
Another good news to all Penang Green Citizens! PGC’s collaboration with L’OCCITANE has also been extended until October 2021 due to popular demand! Now Penang Green Citizens can continue to send empties and bottles of beauty products to the L’OCCITANE stores in Penang for recycling and get more rewards at the same time.
