Penang Green Idol 2019 ("Pertandingan Deklamasi Sajak / Poem Recital Competition")

I. INTRODUCTION

Penang Green Idol is a competition designed to encourage students/teenagers to share their ideas and thoughts about environmental issues and to enhance their knowledge and awareness. This competition is also an initiative for young generation to conserve the environment in line with Penang State’s mission, “To Work towards a Cleaner, Greener, Healthier and Safer Penang.”

 

II. OBJECTIVES

  1. To nurture and inspire young generation on environmental causes.
  2. To encourage youth in active thinking.
  3. To provide a platform for youth to speak up their opinions in green related issues.

 

III. ELIGIBILITY

  1. Participants must be Malaysian citizens residing, studying, or working in Penang. The participant must be able to provide their address in Penang upon registration.
  2. This competition is only open for students age 10 to 12 with 4 categories :
    1. Category A – Bahasa Malaysia
    2. Category B – English
    3. Category C – Chinese
    4. Category D – Tamil

 

IV. RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. Each participant can ONLY choose ONE category as below:
    1. Bahasa Malaysia
    2. English
    3. Chinese
    4. Tamil
  2. Registration is open from 7th January until 8th March 2019.
  3. Participants may use music, costumes, or props during performance, although no additional mark will be allocated.
  4. Performance to be conducted individually.
  5. Participants are required to submit their piece 2 weeks before competition commence.
  6. The piece must be entirely authentic and original and must never have been published or have won a prize in any other competition prior to this competition.
  7. Performance duration: 5 minutes.
  8. Performance theme: Beauty of nature / Dangers of smoking.
  9. Controversial environmental issues shall be presented in a constructive way without provoking sensitive issues such as religious, political or racial.

  11. The decision of the judges is final and any form of correspondence shall not be entertained.
  12. The champions for each session will be crowned as Penang Green Idol 2019. Roles of The Champions are:
    1. Engage with Penang Green Council for all programmes and major events for one year.
    2. Register as a Penang Green Citizen.
  13. The competition consists of 4 different languages with 10 participants in each language group. We will conduct an online registration for all the participants in a first come first serve method.

 

V. COMPETITION FORMAT

  1. Competition is only 1 stage: Final.
  2. 10 participants for each language group will be competing in the final round of the competition.

 

Penang Green Idol 2019 (“Deklamasi Sajak / Poem Competition”) will be held as below:

○     Date  : 13th April 2019 (Saturday)

○     Time  : 08:00 am to 2:00 pm

  • Category A : 08:00 am
  • Category B : 09:30 am
  • Category C : 11:45 am
  • Category D : 1.15 pm

○     Registration : 8.00 am

○     Venue : Dataran Bukit Bendera

 

There is only 1 round for each category of competition in the Final.

 

 VI. JUDGING CRITERIA

  1. Final:
    1. 100% of the marks will be given by the judges.

- know the meaning of every word and line in the piece.
- attentive to the messages, meanings, allusions, irony, tones of voice, and other nuances in your poem.

VII. PRIZES CATEGORIES

  1. Cash prizes will be given to the top three winners of each category as below:

  1. Champions will be entitled to cash reward, certificate of appreciation and crowned as Penang Green Idol 2019.
  2. All participants will be entitled for a certificate of appreciation or participation and goodies bags upon completing their competition.

 

VIII. IMDEMNITY

  1. The organiser shall not be held liable for any injuries, damages and or loss of item during the events.
  2. The organiser reserves the right to modify the rules and regulations, cancel or suspend the event should there be any discrepancy in the event.
  3. All participants shall abide by the rules and regulations set by the organiser.

 

IX. CHAMPIONS

  1. The champions for each category will be crowned as Penang Green Idol 2019. The crowned Champions MUST:-
  2. Engage in one year contract with Penang Green Council for identified programs and major events.
  3. Pledge as a Penang Green Citizen.
  4. Champions who could not abide the following rule must step down and the 1st runner up will be crowned as the Penang Green Idol.
  5. The decrowned champ will walk away only with the 1st runner up title, void of cash.
  6. Penang Green Idol 2019 (hereinafter referred to as the "Idol") is organised by PGC Strategies Sdn. Bhd. (hereinafter referred to as the "the PGC"). These Terms and Conditions shall apply to all Penang Green Idols 2019.
  7. The Idol shall be of good moral character and personality.
  8. The Idol shall not bring into disrepute/negative controversy to the Penang Green Idol Title.
  9. Idols below 18 years of age are required to obtain their parent's/legal guardian's consent on the Contract.
  10. The Idol agrees that the Organiser shall have the right to take photographs, record or otherwise reproduce all or any part of his/her performances or other appearances in connection with the PGC.
  11. For the avoidance of doubt, the PGC reserves the right to disqualify any Idol from on the grounds of undesirable conduct and/or appearance, non-compliance with or breach of one or any of these Terms and Conditions or laws of Malaysia.
  12. The Idol shall not, without the prior written consent of the PGC, speak to the press or other media nor give any interviews or comments relating to the environment.
  13. There shall be no claims against the PGC, in the event of the program or event is annulled, cancelled or postponed by circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the PGC.
  14. The PGC shall not be liable for any sickness, injury or accidents suffered by any Idol or his/her accompanying parties before, during and after any programs or events in connection with the PGC.
  15. Idols can be given a temporary exemption from the activity/program if:
  16. Unable to join in the activities/programs because of sickness or an accident; and
  17. The sickness or injury is temporary; and
  18. Provide a medical certificate which include all the necessary information; and
  19. Medical officer decides that due to the medical condition so the idol is unable to take part in any activities/programmes
  20. The Idol who fails to attend required programmes or events shall be revoked of title if the reasons for such absence are found to be unacceptable by the PGC. A public announcement will be published in the media about the revocation of the title. The PGC reserves the right to provide further consequence to such failure.
  21. The PGC reserves the right to amend or vary any of these Terms and Conditions without prior notice to any Idol.
