"Youth for Environmental Sustainability (YES) Programme"


The programme aims to involve youth in Penang to come together to learn about the environment through conversation, education and action. It is a programme for youth to understand their role in sustaining the environment.


  1. To empower youth to turn ideas into action in environmental conservation.
  2. To inspire a new generation of environmental leaders and educate them on sustainable practices.
  3. To form a zero waste community with better understanding on waste management.

"Jom Hijau Demi Komuniti" - A joint efforts for a Greener Community

"Jom Hijau Demi Komuniti" is a community project organised by Penang Green Council with the support from Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) Bandar Tasek Mutiara Utara & Selatan. This project was steered by four youth, namely Lee Jia Yi, Nurul Izwanni Fazlinda Binti Wahid, Calvin Chan Yi Xuan and Nursyamimie Binti Mohd Paiz. These youth leaders were mentored by PGC under Youth for Environmental Sustainability (YES) Programme and they had successfully ran this project at Dewan Futsal, Bandar Tasek Mutiara on two consecutive weekends on July 22nd and 29th.

"We have so much to share with local residents, including recycling and drawing competition as well as educational talks and exhibition" said Ms Wong Fen Fen, who is the project mentor. One of the programme highlights was DIY recycling art competition. 6 groups of participants aged 6-17 managed to create their unique models using recyclables in innovative way.

Public also get the opportunities to learn more about "Waste Segregation at Source in Penang" and "Electronic Waste Management" through educational talks delivered by youth leader. Apart from that, there was an exhibition on waste management practices and environmental topics. This has provided a knowledge sharing platform for local residents to learn interesting facts about the local waste management scenario. The JKKK committee has organised a recycling competition which run from July 2 to July 26. This is to encourage community involve actively in recycling work, subsequently promote awareness on environmental conservation. The programme ended with a prize giving ceremony which was attended by Sungai Bakap assemblyman, YB. Dr. Amar Pritpal Bin Abdullah.

Penang Green Council (PGC) is a non-profit governmental organisation which nurture and promote environmental awareness and education in Penang. PGC organise series of environmental programmes such as Educational talks, Green Camps, Youth Camp, and other thematic workshops as part of community outreach efforts.
