Environmental Knowledge Enhances Teaching Value

The recent proposal by the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry to introduce Environmental Education (EE) as a new subject in schools by 2019 comes in line with Penang State Government’s vision of making Penang a Cleaner, Greener, Safer, Healthier, and Happier state. Penang Green Council (PGC) aspires to realise the state’s vision by promoting EE through various environmental workshops, camps and trainings tailored to different age groups since 2011.

PGC is organising Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop on 25th and 26th November 2017, 9am-5pm at Penang Institute. The workshop aims to train adults as potential environmental educators to teach for a sustainable future. Upon completion of this workshop, participants are expected to understand teaching methods of four fundamental environmental topics: climate change, water, waste and energy; and to be able to apply into any level of their teaching/ training of own target groups. It is vital that Malaysians learn to appreciate the natural environment in formal educational settings. This will be a great step forward to help develop civic consciousness among children and to produce citizens with environmental values in protecting the environment.

The workshop is open to public above 18 years old, who has keen interest and is passionate about EE. The workshop also includes a module on trainers’ competency where participants will be taught to deliver their training content with high impact. Participants can improve their understanding of environmental issues through these teaching materials, thus raise the environmental awareness of families, local communities and schools. The workshop will be conducted in English. The trainers consist of lecturers from Maktab Perguruan and Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) certified trainer.

Registration fee is RM250 inclusive of meals and a “To Mother Earth With Love” manual. Special rate for group registration is available.
