Green Procurement and Guidelines Talk

In conjunction with the World Environment Day, the Penang State Government has pledged to take the lead by implementing Green Public Procurement (GPP) by requiring all government purchases be given priority to green products. The government will look into life-cycle costing and apply pressure on suppliers to bring more environmentally friendly products to the market place through a combination of legislation and changes in tendering policy.

Penang Green Council (PGC) is holding Green Procurement and Guidelines Talk, as follows:-

Deputy General Secretary of Green Purchasing Network Malaysia (GPNM)

The State Government is now in scrutiny process of expanding office equipment usage based on green concept in all State Government’s offices. In other words, each purchase must give priority to green content. For instance, printing of name cards, by using recycled paper must be considered. These efforts are expected to increase green products’ market demand; at the same time bridging linkages of traders, manufacturers and end-buyers whom are seeking or are developing eco-products or services in Penang.

The talk is held for the first time in consistent with the State Government’s effort to encourage and promote Green Purchasing concept. The Green Procurement & Guidelines Talk will be officiated by Penang Deputy Chief Minister I, Yang Berhormat Tuan Haji Rashid bin Hasnon.

The learning objectives for the talk are to understand how to implement green purchasing in their respective departments/ offices, green procurement & guidelines and Malaysia’s Eco-Products database.

Government agencies’ departments, private sector organisations, green office members & public are welcome to join the Green Procurement & Guidelines Talk.
