Penang Green Innovation Incentive for environmental sustainability solutions

Penang Green Innovation Incentive is an annual scheme designed to encourage innovation in environmental sustainability solutions by providing cash grants and assistance for outstanding entries (innovative product, technology or process). For it to be considered, your innovative entry must be original, novel as well as commercially viable and applicable with a view to tackle environmental degradation or reduce carbon footprint in Penang.

The incentive program is open to all Malaysian citizens. Applicants can be individuals (amateur or business), groups, or organizations (non-profit, Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs), students, etc.). All applications must be made using the official application form available on the Penang Green Council’s website, www.pgc.com.my/pgii.

Applicants may submit more than one application, with the condition that the products, technologies or solutions cannot be interrelated. Applications must be submitted in separate forms. No entry fee is required. The closing date for this year’s application is July 31, 2014 (Thursday).

The benefits of the incentive includes guidance on patent application and mentoring on entrepreneurship and product readiness; seed money of up to RM 50,000 and patent financing of up to RM 50,000 (total disbursement up to RM 200,000 each year).

Applications will be assessed against the Assessment Criteria. Shortlisted entries will be invited for an interview. The decision of the review panels shall be final. Applicants will retain the rights to their proposals. However, Penang Green Council (PGC Strategies Sdn Bhd) reserves the right to suspend or cancel the incentive program without announcing a shortlists or winners.

The assessment criteria are categorized into three parts. (1) Value: Impact on Environment and Society, (2) Concept: Inspiration and Uniqueness, (3) Delivery: Implementation and Feasibility.

In order to ensure the applicants are serious and our funds will not be abused, the patenting is compulsory for the winners and start up their commercial development by using the seed money (up to RM 50,000).
