“Be the Solution, ACCT Now!” Penang Green Video Contest & Penang Green Journalism Award 2014

Penang Green Council is organizing Green Video Contest 2014, themed, “Be the Solution, ACCT Now!”, co-organized by NetPix Sdn Bhd and UP Multimedia Production Sdn Bhd. ACCT is the acronym for “Against Climate Change Today”.

This is the third year we are organizing this contest. The contest is open to all Malaysia residents. The objective of the contest is calling forward Malaysians to share their environmental concerns, initiatives and practices in Penang. These videos will also serve as influential publicity and promotional materials for green practices in Penang. As climate change has been a constant environmental issue, we are hoping to educate and remind the public of the effects of climate change could bring.

A total cash prize worth up to RM 12,000 will be given out to three winners; grand prize: RM 5,000, 2nd Prize: RM 4,000, and 3rd Prize: RM 3,000. Deadline for submission is 31st July, 2014.

In addition, we are inviting all professional journalists to participate in the Penang Green Journalism Award 2014 organized by Penang Green Council.

The main objective of the award is to support and encourage professional journalists to explore the value of the environmental issues and produce articles on various environmental issues in Penang. Secondly, we also aim to increase public awareness and knowledge on environmental issues through news reports and features.

Introduction of a New Category – Green Photojournalism

This year, a new category – Green Photojournalism is being introduced to allow journalists and photographers to display their work in another form – photos. All prizes for Photojournalism are proudly sponsored by Canon, Malaysia worth up to RM 8,000.

Similar to the previous years, the other two categories in Penang Green Journalism 2014 are news report and features writing. Participants may participate in all three categories, with the condition that only ONE(1) entry for each category.

News report and feature writing is categorized into four languages, Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Inggeris, Bahasa Cina, and Tamil. Works of journalist must be published in any newspaper, magazines, news portal media organizations between 1st May, 2013 and 13th July, 2014. The deadline for the submission of entries is 31st July, 2014.

A total cash prize worth up to RM 26,000 will be given out for outstanding news report and features.
