Straits Quay Retail Marina Going Green in conjunction with Earth Day celebration

Joint Statement by Teh Yee Cheu, Tanjung Bungah State Assemblyman cum the Organising Chairman of Penang Green Carnival 2015 and CK Tan, Centre Manager of Straits Quay Retail Marina on 7 April 2015:

In tune with the mall’s celebration of Green Gratitude month, Straits Quay Retail Marina will be celebrating the highlight of the two month celebration with Think Green Go Green, in collaboration with Penang Green Council (PGC). The Green event will be on 25th April, from 4pm – 8pm.

Penang Green Idol 2015 Semi Final at Straits Quay Promenade

Aimed to create awareness among Penangites, especially the younger generation, Penang Green Idol 2015 – a public speaking competition – will be held during Think Green Go Green event. The competition provides opportunities for the young generation to express their views and enhance knowledge as well as awareness on environmental causes. This in turn will also nurture young children to become the leaders of tomorrow not only for the people, but the environment to generate more exponential positive impact for Mother Earth. The audition to select participants was held in KOMTAR on 4th April and the semi final will be held in Straits Quay Retail Marina. Champions will be crowned as Penang Green Idol during the final stage on 14 June 2015, engaging with PGC’s programs and projects for the duration of one year.

Patrons of the mall will not only be able to witness the talents of our younger generation but also participates in green workshops available as well as indulge in a series of green-themed performances. Various fun workshops such as ‘Think before You Throw Game’, ‘Plant A Tree, ‘Plant A Future’, ‘Will Pedal For Power’, ‘Sew A Bag’ and ‘DIY Paper Basket’ will be available for participation during the 4-hour event. Patrons will also be treated to the upbeat pounding of Recycle Bin drum. One will be amazed with the melodious music created with household items.

Towards the evening, there will also be a demonstration of YOGA moves and postures on the floating stage. Patrons and yoga enthusiasts are welcomed to join in the Yoga session. Throughout the month, there will be various green related performances, workshops, competitions and events like Earth Hour celebration, Easter Egg hunt and more.
